Usage Based Insurance

  • Diane has just finished a road trip and the FANCI system has tracked her emotions, eye gaze and data analytics for the whole time. At the end of the road trip, the system processes her driving style (e.g. gradual accelerations and how much time Diane spent scanning the road and looking at signs, respecting speed limits, avoiding tailgating, remaining calm and relaxed, avoiding situations of road-rage and other meaningful data). The system then uses this information to assign the driver an overall score that influences the cost of Diane’s insurance premium.
  • Diane has just finished a road trip and the FANCI system has tracked her emotions, eye gaze and data analytics for the whole time. At the end of the road trip, the system processes her driving style (e.g. gradual accelerations and how much time Diane spent scanning the road and looking at signs, respecting speed limits, avoiding tailgating, remaining calm and relaxed, avoiding situations of road-rage and other meaningful data). The system then uses this information to assign the driver an overall score that influences the cost of Diane’s insurance premium.
  • In other words:
    • FANCI is capable of post processing a driver’s emotional state and other data about driving style to give as proof of driver score in order to achieve discounted on insurance premiums. This can include (but not limited to):
      • Eye gaze tracking to determine whether the driver had been paying attention to the road, scanning the road properly, looking at signs, or whether they were distracted by the infotainment system or their cell phone.
      • “Gamification” aspects: at the end of the drive, the system can assign the driver a score based on how many signs or dangerous situations they have failed to look at: “you have missed 5% of the road signs on your journey”.
      • Data analytics – This can take into account other information such as how many times the driver was involved in tailgating, jackrabbit accelerations or other negative driving behaviours.
      • Similarly, the system could recognize rude gestures or agitated gesticulation while driving and keep that in consideration.
    • Multiple people in the family using the same car: identifying the person who is driving can change the total premium on the car. If the least experienced driver is driving only once in a while it might make a big difference from an insurance perspective – similarly, having an experienced co-driver on board while a young driver is driving may influence the insurance premium.
